/ Yamaha ATV / Quad Serial Prefix – Yamaha Model Codes 2000 - 2012 Every prefix from a Yamaha vehicle identification number (VIN number) refers to a model code. Here we have a list from all prefixes / VIN number and model codes including their model year and the available colors available in that year. You can decode your vin number right here, and if you are not sure or your prefix / VIN number is not listed us your VIN number and we will check it for you! It concerns all Yamaha ATV and Quad models from 2000 untill 2012.
ATV Vin Number: Check and Decode Your VIN ATV VIN number charts and information to help you search for and decode your ATV’s VIN. Every sport ATV has a 17 digit VIN (vehicle identification number) even if you need to search for the ATV VIN location a little. You’ll find the VIN plate mounted to the frame of the ATV, usually on the bottom left side. This information guide will help you with ATV VIN identification. Kawasaki for example has the VIN mounted on the left side of the frame below the engine. If you have nerf bars installed it’s possible that part of the VIN will be hard to see.
Don’t mistake the engine number, which is mounted on the engine, as a VIN number because they are different. A VIN or Vehicle Identification Number is standardized. Whether your ride a Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Polaris, Yamaha or other ATV all will contain 17 characters that can include capital letters from A through Z and numbers 1 through 0. The letters I, O and Q are never used within a VIN in order to avoid mistakes made by misreading them.
No signs or spaces are allowed in the Vehicle Identification Number. The position of each letter and/or number in the VIN code reveals important information about where and when your ATV was made, the type of engine it has, the model or series of ATV, various equipment/attributes and its production sequence. Contact the vehicles manufacturer with specific VIN related questions. Contact your local DMV, department of motor vehicles, if you need to replace your VIN plate (if it broke off or you installed a new frame etc). Here is a general breakdown of what your ATV VINs number means. – 1st digit: represents the country in which it was made. Motorola astro saber radio. 1 or 4 is for the U.S., 2 is for Canada, J is for Japan, K is for Korea.
– 2nd digit: represents the manufacturer. H is for Honda, K is for Kawasaki etc. – 3rd digit: this position represents the vehicle type or manufacturing division which can vary by make of vehicle.
– 4th to 8th digits: these positions represent vehicle attributes such as body style and engine type (not to be confused with an engine code, every vehicle has one of those mounted on the engine). Honda ATV owners visit the list for model information. – 9th digit: this is called a check digit and it exists for security reasons. This letter or number is derived mathematically depending on the previous 8 digits. It’s used to confirm that a VIN isn’t being fabricated. – 10th digit: The vehicle year. MODEL YEAR CODES and it continues year by year: 2011 = B, 2012 = C, 2013 = D, 2014 = E, 2015 = F, 2016 = G etc.
Important: The letters i,q and o are never used so skip them accordingly. – 11th digit: Assembly plant – 12th to 17th digits: These ATV vin numbers increase by one for each unit that rolls off the assembly line, the last four are always digits. It’s very helpful to know your ATV VIN when purchasing aftermarket parts.

Can someone help me understand the Yamaha engine codes? I searched and didn't find anything specific to what I was looking for. Here’s what I know (or believe to be correct). Basically there are engine cases and cylinders with codes.
I know 93-94 blasters have 61x cases and 61x cylinders 701cc single carb. In 96 they have 62t cases (dual carb) with 61x cylinders same as 96 and newer Superjets. 62t cylinders are 701cc but with different exhaust bolt sizes??? They came off two and three seater 701s??? So what is a 64u? Is it a 760 cylinder with what size bolt holes?
Can I slap one on a 62t case? If so what are the pros/cons vs boring out a 61x cylinder?
Lastly I assume all heads have to match cylinders. I wish I could create a compatibility chart.
61x case works with the following cylinders: 62t case works with the following cylinders: 64u.is there a 64u case or just cylinder? The 64U is just a 701 couch engine that had a 62T cases with a single pulse line fitting that would accept 760 sleeves. The 61X cylinder can be bored up too 84mm and the 64X 760 cylinder will go up too 85mm before big bore sleeves are needed. YAMAHA Crankcase Application: 6M6 = 650LX, VXR650, WRIII650, SJ650 61X = ProVXR 701, WRIII701 SJ700 (`9495), WaveBlaster1 (`9395), Raider 701 (9697) 62T = SJ700 (`96+), WaveBlaster (`96+), Raider Deluxe, XL700, Venture 700 64X = GP760, WaveBlaster2, Raider 760, Venture 760, XL760 63M = Raider 1100, Venture 1100 64U = XL700, XLT700 65U = GP1200, XL1200, SUV1200 66E = GP800, GP800R, XL800, XLT800 66V = GP1200R, XL1200Ltd, XLT1200 60T = GP1300R.
6M6 and 61X motor - down draft cases (manifold sits level on the cases) 62T motor - side draft cases (manifold sits at an angle on the cases) 61X cylinder (94-95 701) has different port timing than the 62T (96+) cylinder so it is preferred for surf riding set up when paired with the 62T cases. The heads are a bit tricky. They all have different openings for the water jackets. For example: The 61X head is wide open so most any AM head gasket will work on it and the holes for cooling will line up no matter what. The 62T head is more specific and you have to use an OEM gasket for them to line up. 6M6 (650) cases can be bored to accept the 701 cylinder and they work pretty good, they just have smaller reeds. Btw Rix - we finally got out there and got crackin on that hull.
